Lytho for Droomdag!
By LythoniansThe Dream Day Foundation provides a Dream Day to families. We are here for families with young kids with a parent who has cancer and/or is terminally ill. We organise a day full of surprises, completely focused on the wishes and dreams of the family. Where children can simply be kids again, even if one of their parents is seriously ill. On this day we want to create a lasting memory which is priceless.
Often we get little notes weeks after the Dream Day, I'll share one here to illustrate the impact of these days: "We thought the dream day was really special. It's hard to explain how important it was for us; how important it was for me to see the children relax, to laugh and to have really beautiful pictures and videos of it. It's so nice to talk about it again and again now, to remember that day, to look at the video and the pictures. And I know it will be a shared memory for the kids and my sister when I'm gone. I know they will always think back on this with a smile, and that feels very comforting.
That is perhaps also the special thing: for me (and my sister) it had quite an emotional charge, but for the children it was mainly a great day on which they did special things and about which they told plenty (bragged ;-)) in class and to others. They also really thought they deserved it. And they are right in that, and you acknowledge them in that.
So: thank you for the special day. For the memories on film. For the dedication of all the volunteers, for organizing it so 'precisely', for taking the hassle out of it. I hope that you can give many more families such a beautiful and important experience!"
